Madisonville, KY – The Madisonville Fire Department was dispatched twice to the General Electric Plant in Madisonville Tuesday.
The first alarm sent two units to the manufacturing plant. When the units arrived they were informed that a piece of equipment, a Raycom EDM, had caught fire. Plant personnel extinguished the fire with a dry chemical fire extinguisher. A low oil level was determined to be the cause of the fire causing the unit to overheat. There were no injuries reported.
The second call sent four units to the facility on Nebo Road. When the units arrived, they were met by the guard who advised them the alarm was due to not pinning the pull station alarm before the system was reactivated. This caused the alarm to activate. The system was re-armed. There being no further action needed, the fire units returned to quarters.
And the Madisonville Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 445 West Center Street. Six units responded. The home occupant informed the fire crews that an electrical panel had exploded. Upon further investigation, it was determined that light smoke was in the structure and the main electrical breaker box. The electrical meter was removed as the crews set-up a positive pressure ventilation. The fire was quickly extinguished. A thermal imaging camera was used to search for hot areas around the panel box. Sheetrock was pulled from around the panel box to ensure that no fire was inside the wall. The Madisonville Utility Company arrived and pulled the power to the residence. A Multi-Gas Detector was used to monitor air quality inside the structure. It was determined that the air quality was with-in normal level range. The area was then deemed safe as all units returned to quarters.
